03 Sling leg check
How hard does each leg pull?
The flatter a sling's legs, the more each one carries. A 4,000 lb load on two legs at 30° puts 4,000 lb on each leg, not 2,000. Enter the load, the legs and the angle.
What this does not know
It assumes a vertical-hitch rating, a load centred under the hook and legs of equal length. Choker and basket hitches, sharp edges, heat, damage and an off-centre load all lower what a sling can take. The sling's own tag and the rigging rules your site follows (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.184, ASME B30.9) govern; a qualified rigger decides. Ohio Lift is not OSHA or ASME.
